PROJECT SUMMARY
The project aims to rent a 3 roomed property of which one room will be equipped to be utilised as a soup kitchen and the remaining two rooms will be equipped to provide aftercare and to address the literacy of the poorest children in the community of 7th Avenue squatter camp in Mossel Bay. The soup kitchen will provide free critical meals to qualifying children in the specific community. Basic vegetables will be grown in the backyard of the premises to assist the soup kitchen to provide basic critical meals. These vegetable gardens can also be extended to premises of potential volunteers which may solve the issue of the shortage of land for cultivation. Volunteers in the specific community will be utilised to assist in the cultivation as well as the day-to-day running and administration of the centre. Cognizance must be taken that a large part of this community is affected by poverty and unemployment. Most parents are single. The community will be willing to act as voluntary workers as it is in the interest of their children to receive basic nutrition and literacy.
