HOW DO WE SOLVE THE PROBLEM?
The soup kitchen Initiative in the area of 7de Laan Squatter Camp in Mossel Bay is intended to assure the community that people are interested in empowering them as well as to provide in their critical needs.
By establishing the project and involving volunteers from this part of the community, an awareness will be raised to take ownership for the well-being of its own needs in the community.
Basic awareness will ensure improvement and have a positive impact in the standard of living of this part of the community in Mossel Bay.
The establishment of this initiative will give meaning to the motto of this project which is "hope for a child in need of critical care". This initiative will also serve as an extension to the services of the Department of Social Services and other social departments.
The Initiative in fact will be beneficial to any social services in the area as they may have access to the database of the project in identifying children in need of critical care. They will also be able to refer such clients to this project. When successful, this project may also in future extend it's services in this part of the community as the project develops.
By extending the vegetable garden to premises of volunteers will not only solve the issue of shortage of land to cultivate, but will also create an awareness among people in this area to cultivate vegetables and thereby provide in there basic needs. It will also involve family members to assist in cultivating vegetable gardens which in itself will be a deterrent factor for many social difficulties.
